    What is the 11 plus?

    The 11 plus is a selective entrance examination for secondary school. The exam is taken place towards the beginning of Year 6 of primary school.

    There are two main exam boards for the 11plus exams:

    (1)  CEM (Durham University)

    (2)  GL Assessment.

    The content and structure of the 11 plus exam usually focus on a combination of the following four subjects however it varies around the country.

    • English
    • Maths
    • Verbal reasoning
    • Non-verbal reasoning

    What is TGSCC?

    There are five schools known as the Trafford Grammar Schools GL Consortium (TGSCC): Altrincham Grammar for Girls,  Altrincham Grammar School For Boys, Sale Grammar, Stretford Grammar, Urmston Grammar

    Examination providers for Consortium schools are GL Assessment and children can sit only one test.

    Some parents are looking more toward Independent School education. Most Independent Schools look children with a broad variety of abilities. Independent Schools often produce their own papers which are available on their websites.
